This is Silver Star the Shining Star. Silver Star is a dark gray & white large GIANT AKC purebred Alaskan Malamute.  Many people that see Silver Star in person say that they think he weighs far more than 111 lbs. because he is so big.  Silver Star has an excellent temperament. He loves people and lets it be known!(except when he has a female he has been breeding with! Then he cares more about the female.) Come visit us and you will see!  ******Silver Star is now retired.  He no longer cares to breed.******

Glacier
(Great Is God's Love And Mercy)
Glacier is a pure white long-furred wooly VERY LARGE GIANT AKC purebred Alaskan Malamute.  Glacier is one of the largest Alaskan Malamutes in the US!!  He certainly is also one of the largest white wooly Malamutes in the US!!  Glacier looks absolutely massive!!  Glacier has some of the largest puppies in the US when bred to our Giant females!!  Many people that see Glacier in person say that they think that he weighs over 150 lbs.  Glacier has some Wakon in his pedigree.

Glacier is very friendly and easy-going.  He is a puppy at heart and is like a great big gentle teddy bear.

Glacier is such a GREAT Alaskan Malamute that a well-known Giant Alaskan Malamute breeder tried to "covertly" obtain Glacier and some of his offspring, as well as other of our Malamutes, from us.
Glacier is shedding in these 2 pictures.
Kumbie
(Retired)
Kumbie is a red & white AKC purebred Alaskan Malamute.  He has an excellent temperament.
Kumbie is a great example of how most Alaskan Malamute breeders hype up and exaggerate the weight of their dogs.  The breeder that we bought Kumbie from said that he was 117-124 lbs.  Well, his official VET SCALE weight taken 5 days after he arrived was only 86 lbs.!!  He has since gained 9 lbs. and is 95.6 lbs. now.  The breeder that we bought 2 other AKC purebred Alaskan Malamute males from over the years said that all of his dogs were 150-200 lbs.  One of the males that we bought from him was 101 lbs at exactly 3 years old, and the other male was 89 lbs. at 15 months old.  You have to assume that most breeders hype up their dogs' weights and go way high on the weights when they tell you or list their dogs' weights.  And even the breeders that say that their weights listed are vet scale weights will add on many pounds before they list what they call the vet scale weight.  All of our dogs' weights listed are true and accurate vet scale weights, with NO added pounds.  All of our dogs are brought to our vet regularly and officially weighed.

Vet scale weight on 2/29/08: 95.6 lbs.

Power
(Power In The Cross Of Jesus)
Power is an AKC purebred very large GIANT red & white long-furred wooly male.  Power is the son of Caledonia's Big Red known now as Kuma.  Power is clearly taller and larger than his dad!!  Power is also the 1/2 brother of Koyuk, bred by a well-known Malamute breeder and supposedly in a movie that we have never seen made public.

Power is our tallest Malamute and is clearly one of THE tallest Malamutes in the US!!!!!  He is 33 inches at the shoulder  Power has some of the tallest and largest puppies available in the US when bred to our Giant females!!  He has one son living in MI who is 143 lbs.  Power has stunning yellow eyes and many of his puppies do as well!!

Many Alaskan Malamute breeders hype up the weights of their Malamutes to make them look larger than they really are.  Also, Alaskan Malamutes seldom exceed 150 lbs unless they are overweight.   The breeders who say that their Malamutes are over 150 lbs add many pounds to the true vet scale weight.  This includes  those that say on their website that the weight is a vet scale weight. ALL we Giant Alaskan Malamute breeders in the U.S. have Alaskan Malamutes from the same lines as each other.
Vet scale weight now:  113 lbs.
Height:  33 inches at the shoulders.

Vet scale weight: 113 lbs. breeding weight.
OFA hips:  Good:  AM-11721G30M-PI.

Vet scale weight: 145 lbs. (non-breeding weight - after being neutered).  Galaxy is perhaps slightly overweight at this weight.  Galaxy gained about 30 lbs. within 3 months of being neutered.  Now, after about 1 & 1/2 years, Galaxy is down to 125 lbs as of October, 2007.
Galaxy is a large GIANT AKC purebred Alaskan Malamute and has given us a number of daughters as well as 3 grand daughters.

Galaxy will be staying with us.
Galaxy is an extremely intelligent GIANT Alaskan Malamute. He and our female Baby are the most intelligent dogs that we own. He loves children always going over by them when they come and visit.
THE TRUTH ABOUT FLOPPY EARS:  Galaxy is a Giant AKC purebred Alaskan Malamute and has been officially retired as of 3/9/06.  Galaxy was retired due to having floppy-eared puppies.  Don't believe the claim that FLOPPY EARS are not passed down to the offspring.  They are.  Floppy ears are genetically passed down to the offspring.  Galaxy is our second breeding male who had floppy ears, and both breeding males had many pups with floppy ears as adults.  Please read about Galaxy's daughter Wolf who has floppy ears.  Also read the notice on floppy ears in Cinnamon's area.  Floppy ears run in lines, like Galaxy's line and Alaska's Own line for examples.  You can even have puppies that have floppy ears as adults even when mom and dad do not have floppy ears if floppy ears are in both of the lines of the mom and dad.

We have seen, however, one non-genetic cause of down ears, and that is when the puppy/dog has up ears, and then starts a veterinary prescribed medication for a medical issue that the dog is dealing with.  An ear or ears go down while on the medication, and then never go back up.  We have seen this 2 times with our puppies/dogs.  These 2 particular dogs are not on our website yet.
All pictures of Shinook were taken on 6/16/09.
Power at 4 1/2 months.

THE MYTH ABOUT SIZE AND WEIGHTS:  Any Alaskan Malamute female 90 lbs. or more and any Alaskan Malamute male 100lbs. or more is considered a Giant (trim weight).  The only TRUE Giant Alaskan Malamute, however, is one that the breeder can give VET SCALE weight proof right from their vet.  There likely are very few Alaskan Malamutes in the world truly over 150lbs. Many breeders say that their Malamutes are heavier than they really are to help sell their puppies.  If a breeder says that their Malamutes are 150-200 lb, ask them for a vet-signed statement of proof.  There has to be VET SCALE proof, and the dog has to be trim and not overweight to be accurate.  Even some Alaskan Malamute breeders that say they have vet scale weights on their website add many pounds to the weights they list making the dogs look like they are heavier and larger than they truly are.  The proof will be in the true vet scale weights of the offspring.  The fact is is that ALL of the Giant Alaskan Malamute breeders in the U.S. (whether they are in AK, OH, MI, KY, TN, TX, or any other state) have Alaskan Malamutes from the same lines as each other.  And, NO Alaskan Malamute breeder in the U.S. has an entirely M'loot line.  An entirely M'loot line does NOT exist, and there is no test of any kind available to even show which lines contain M'loot Mals in them.  *****All of our dogs' weights here at Northern Glories are true vet scale weights with NO added weight listed.*****
